The New York Yankees (52-52, 4th AL East) are visiting Citi Field today and tomorrow to open four games against the New York Mets (54-50, 3rd NL East) before moving back home to the confines of Yankee Stadium.
Expected to take the mound for the Yankees is CC Sabathia (6-8, 3.95 ERA) who will go up against Logan Verrett (3-6, 4.12 ERA).
The two teams have gone through a total reversal of late and the Mets, once envious of Yankee success are the defending NL Champions and are on track to get into the playoffs again this season while the Yankees are again on the outside looking in.
After taking three of four games against the Cleveland Indians, The New York Yankees (44-44, 4th AL East) head home to host division rival Boston Red Sox (49-38 2nd AL East) this weekend kicking off tomorrow evening at 6:05 in Yankee Stadium.
Taking the mound for the Yankees will be Michael Pineda (3-8, 5.38 ERA) while Eduardo Rodriguez (1-3, 8.59 ERA) will take the mound for the Red Sox.
“It’s really important,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. ” … I think it’s really important because of who we are playing. You are playing two teams in the division who are ahead of you [and] playing San Francisco, who is playing extremely well.”

The New York Yankees were looking to sweep the Minnesota Twins yesterday but may have gotten a little ahead of themselves as the Twins regrouped from two straight losses to defeat the Yankees 7-1 last night.
The Yankees have little time to dwell on the situation as they host the League Leading Texas Rangers for a four game series lasting through June 30th.
Starting for the Yankees will be Ivan Nova (5-5 5.18 ERA) who has had some control issues of late earning a 6.88 ERA with a .932 OPS…not a great stat to go up against a top hitting club like the Rangers.
The Rangers have called up Chi Chi Gonzalez to make his 2016 debut against the Yankees tonight, which will be his first meeting against .New York.

The New York Yankees had hoped to get off to a better start in this series against the Colorado Rockies but the Rockies came out swinging in the first and never looked back. Charlie Blackmon led the game off with a home run blast that ricocheted off the right field foul pole and struck deep gold again in the 4th inning.
Rockies pitching kept the Yankees at bay with Chad Bettis going six innings and limited the Yankees to four runs.
“We made some mistakes tonight and yeah, it does bother me,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “When you make mistakes to a team that hits the ball out of the ballpark, a lot of times you’re going to lose.”
The Yankees have a chance to get even today at noon in this short two game series. They will then concentrate on the Minnesota Twins coming in for a three game stand beginning Friday.

Having lost two of three games against the Baltimore Orioles (32-23 1st AL East) last week, the New York Yankees (26-30 4th AL East) will look to get a fresh start when they host the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim beginning tonight at 6:05 at Yankee Stadium.
In the rubber game last night, the Orioles placed runners on first and second before mother nature called the game. When it resumed, Francisco Pena singled to get on base, setting up Matt Weiters two out, two run single giving the Orioles a 3-1 lead for good.
CC Sabathia was spectacular in the loss, throwing 111 pitches in five innings before getting out of a jam by striking out Mark Trumbo with bases loaded.
“He battled,” said Yankees manager Joe Girardi of Sabathia. “He had to grind through getting us into the sixth inning. He threw a lot of pitches in the one inning — 37 pitches [in the third] — but I think he did a heck of a job.”

The New York Yankees will host the Tampa Bay Rays for the first time this season and hope to get off to a better start then they did with the series against Athletics, losing all three games in the confines of home.
Matt Moore will start for the Rays while the Yankees will counter with CC Sabathia to kick off the series with relievers Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances waiting in the wings.
“They’re really focused on shortening the game,” Rays Manager Kevin Cash said. “This year, they have the potential to be even more dominating. You’re talking about two of the best on one team.”

The New York Yankees are going into the 2016 season with the team in a great position to go further than a wildcard bid to the playoffs. The franchise has assembled what SB Nation’s Pinstripe Ally calls
“…the best bullpen in baseball without sacrificing significant value.”
With both Alex Rodriguez and Carlos Beltran back in the lineup, expect more power hitting from the club. Rodriguez had 33 homers last season, Beltran 19.

CC Sabathia announced today that he will be forgoing the upcoming playoff push to check himself into rehab.
“Today I am checking myself into an alcohol rehabilitation center to receive the professional care and assistance needed to treat my disease.
“I love baseball and I love my teammates like brothers, and I am also fully aware that I am leaving at a time when we should all be coming together for one last push toward the World Series. It hurts me deeply to do this now, but I owe it to myself and to my family to get myself right. I want to take control of my disease, and I want to be a better man, father and player.”
Sabathia went on to thank the organization and his teammates and cited his family and friends and the ability to get out in front of his problem.
